Read below for more answers about English classes offered

Level I (2nd & 3rd Grade)

Level 1 English Class will focus on age appropriate reading comprehension with short non-fiction texts and questions on the text. As students progress, the material will become more challenging. Grammar will be included and will be age appropriate as well with simple explanations and handouts geared toward younger students. We will also play games to learn grammar concepts. We will use Word Ladder games to practice vocabulary. The Word Ladders give students clues to change one word into another subtracting or adding letters each time.

Level II (4th & 5th Grade)

Level 2 English Class will also focus on reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will be reading a book and writing on prompts from the book. Students will be doing critical thinking and will be expected to know the book. The class will also cover grammar and will include games to imprint the grammar principles. Students will also be learning vocabulary, either from the book that we read in the class, or from a separate source.

Level III (Middle School)

Level 3 English Class will focus on the basics as well: reading, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will be reading the classic coming-of-age story: The House on Mango Street and answering questions on the book. The questions will be both analytical and require them to know the book. Students will also be practicing areas of the SAT, which will be used as the main academic measurement in Michigan high schools, covering sections including reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and editing. Grammar also will be taught, and we will use team games in class to imprint the grammar concepts. A fun, creative, final project based on the book will be assigned.
